Alzheimer's disease progression

Charting Alzheimer’s Disease Progression: A Downward Spiral

Mike Jerry

Introduction
Alzheimer's disease progression involves a series of stages sufferers go through. Although each patient is different and may experience Alzheimer's in varying ways, these steps are generally what are expected to transpire as the disease unfolds. At first small memory changes begin to creep in, but the patient has yet to be diagnosed. As the brain disease becomes evident, a diagnosis will be made. Once the impairment gets worse and worse, the patient will require caregivers to help them with their daily tasks. Over time the patient will sink further into the disorder, not being able to use the bathroom by themselves, and finally, the patient will become catatonic and eventually die. There is no known cure for this devastating disorder.
